This is a rare August 23rd, 1946 program (playbill) from the two-night, out-of-town tryout and WORLD PREMIERE engagement of the GEORGE BATSON comedy "CORDELIA" at the Shubert Theatre in New Haven, Connecticut. (The production opened August 23rd, 1946 in New Haven and closed September 28th, 1946 at the Auditorium in Trenton, New Jersey, failing to arrive in New York. A revised version, retitled "A Dangerous Woman" would open January 24th, 1947 at the Erie Theatre in Schenectady, New York and close February 15th, 1947 at Ford's Theatre in Baltimore, once again failing to arrive on Broadway.) ..... The play starred ZASU PITTS in the title role and the cast included PHYLLIS DeBUS, SUSAN STEELL, CURTIS COOKSEY, PATTY POPE, WILLIAM VAN SLEET, GORDON McDONALD, LOTUS ROBB, NANCY DAVIS, ROBERT LYNN, KITTY KELLY and VALERIE VALAIRE ..... Side note: NANCY DAVIS made her Broadway debut (and only Broadway appearance) earlier in the year in the musical "Lute Song". Six years later she would marry actor Ronald Reagan and in 1981 would become the nation's First Lady ..... CREDITS: Book by GEORGE BATSON; Sets designed by CHARLES ELSON; Costumes designed by EDITH HEAD; Directed by RUSSELL FILLMORE; Produced by JULES J. LEVENTHAL ..... DETAILS: The 36 page playbill measures 6 1/8" X 9 1/4" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, synopsis of scenes, a bio of ZASU PITTS and wonderful vintage advertising, but no cast photos ..... CONDITION: With the exception of minor creasing to the top right corner, this rare playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
